Northern Virginia is three jurisdictions and a hundred years of housing in one small area. Inside the Beltway it is brick colonials, Cape Cods and garden apartments from the 1930s to the 1960s, many with cloth wiring, two-prong outlets and panels that were sized for a house with one television. Out toward Fairfax and Springfield the stock is newer, townhouse rows and split levels with more circuits but tighter panels, and almost all of it has been added onto at least once. Dominion Energy serves nearly every home, and a panel upgrade or a service change anywhere in the region goes through their disconnect and reconnect.
Our shop is on Oakwood Road in Alexandria, which puts Arlington, Annandale and Springfield within about twenty minutes and Fairfax within thirty outside of rush hour. The van carries breakers from 15 to 200 amps, fish tapes and glow rods for plaster walls, and the weatherproof boxes and GFCI devices the newer townhouses ask for. We lay down floor protection on the way in, keep the work in one place, and take every scrap of old wire and drywall with us on the way out.
JM & Sons Electrical Services works across Alexandria and Northern Virginia, so a crew is never far from Northern Virginia. Call (703) 725-8508 or request a free estimate and we’ll come out and take a look.
Homes across the region are adding heat pumps, induction ranges and EV chargers to panels that were full twenty years ago. We calculate the real load, size the new panel for what is coming, and handle the utility disconnect.
Cloth wiring, ungrounded outlets and backstabbed devices are common inside the Beltway. We replace runs rather than patch them, add ground wires, and put AFCI breakers on the bedroom circuits.
Finished basements and renovated kitchens are the two most common calls from Fairfax and Annandale. We run dedicated 20-amp circuits for the appliances, subpanels where the main is full, and outlets to code spacing.
One on-call electrician covers the whole region around the clock. A sparking outlet in Arlington or a dead panel in Springfield gets the same answer: a person on the phone and a crew on the way.
Old 100-amp panel and meter base out, new 200-amp main breaker panel in, with the Dominion disconnect booked so the swap is done and inspected in one day.
Cloth-insulated runs replaced with modern NM cable fished through plaster and lath, grounded outlets in every room, and AFCI protection at the panel.
A dedicated 50-amp circuit from the panel to the garage with a NEMA 14-50 outlet, load-checked first so the existing service can carry it.
Alexandria, Arlington and the close-in Fairfax County neighborhoods. Pre-war and mid-century homes where the work is panel replacements, rewiring cloth-insulated runs, and adding grounded circuits to rooms that never had them.
Split levels, ramblers and 1970s townhouses on crawlspaces and slabs. Subpanels for finished basements, dedicated kitchen circuits, and EV charger circuits run to attached garages.
Newer townhouse rows and single-family subdivisions with tighter panels and long feeder runs. Panel upgrades to make room for heat pumps and chargers, exterior outlets, and troubleshooting on builder-grade wiring.
Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria each issue their own electrical permits and run their own inspections. Your contractor pulls the right one for your address and schedules the inspection; you should see the permit before work starts.
Any panel upgrade or service change needs the utility to pull the meter and reconnect afterward. Your contractor books that window with Dominion so the crew works on a dead service and your power is back the same day.
